German Chocolate
Get your sweet tooth ready for this grand German Chocolate store - RAUSCH. This store in Berlin, Germany offered everything from creamy milk chocolate to the purest of dark chocolate in multiple shapes, sizes, and additions. And cute, tasty chocolate Berlin Bears.
They offered us free samples of 3 dark chocolates if we answered questions about the chocolate. The chocolates were rectangular pieces, from 3/8-inch thick down to less than 1/8-inch thick. I was asked how easily they broke in two, how creamy the chocolate was, and how fast it melted in my mouth. All of us who tasted them liked the middle-size piece the best.
The chocolate sculptures in the store were fantastic! The glass-domed Democratic German People Building (government), the famous Brandenburg Gate, several old churches (not pictured), and the chocolate cherub atop packets of chocolate-covered brittle were gorgeous.
I got a wonderful 4-inch square of milk chocolate with Hazelnuts to take home. Unfortunately, it was melted from the suitcase, but, you know, 30 minutes in the fridge, and it was delicious.
Hershey’s has always been my favorite chocolate…. but I have to say, this German chocolate was very rich and just right for sweetness. I may have two faves now.
What kind is YOUR favorite chocolate flavor and brand? Dark or milk? Nutty or plain? Godiva, Hershey, Ghirardelli, Cadbury, Lindt? See’s? Whitman’s? Or Rausch?
Thanks for reading. One last German Food post next week. A family backyard BBQ on the outskirts of Berlin.
